The proposed development will result in the total demolition and loss of what has been described as possibly the oldest building in Birkirkara.
Dating back to the 16th/17th Century, this building lying in the heart of this urban conservation area is unquestionably one of cultural, social and historic value and should be protected, retained and restored in line with SPED T.O.8.1 and SPED T.O.8.7. It’s total redevelopment and disregard for restoration and conservation, further runs counter to SPED U.O.2.1 and U.O.2.2.
As is, this development is completely in violation of these objectives and should be refused by the Planning Authority.
Let the Authorities know that the laws protecting heritage buildings are there to be upheld.
