Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar welcomes the importance given to heritage in this Budget, as shown by the funds allocated to the restoration of the Palace, the Birgu collacchio, the Cittadella and various other heritage sites in Malta and Gozo. The heritage and environment group is especially gratified that funds have been earmarked for the ongoing restoration of the bastions and the restoration of Fort St Angelo, as well as grants for maintenance works on scheduled properties as FAA has repeatedly called for.

The announcement that registration tax is to be waived for Euro 4 and 5 commercial vehicles should greatly contribute to the environmental upgrading of Malta’s commercial fleets which include a high percentage of Malta’s more polluting vehicles. Incentives to public transport operators to attract more users make sound commercial and environmental sense in encouraging the public to switch to public transport and reduce the number of cars on the road.
