Who Are We?

Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar (FAA) was established in 2006 and is Malta’s leading NGO committed to the long-term protection and campaigning of its environmental and cultural heritage, for a socially inclusive and sustainable ‘quality of life’ in the Maltese islands-. Malta, Gozo and Comino.

It is a very active, non-profit, voluntary organization, independent of all governmental, commercial, or political groups managed by committed and professional volunteers.

It lobbies extensively and also with other committed organisations for better planning and land-use policies not only for the sake of preservation but also to foster socially and environmentally conscious regeneration of our urban areas. This aligns with our commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals.

FAA is also a catalyst for change and carries out projects to instigate social change and raise public awareness and understanding of examples of good practice.  These illustrate the type of realistic and attainable change necessary across all public and private sectors to guarantee the long-term development of our islands in the face of growing environmental challenges.

Recent Campaigns

FAA’s campaigns have saved countless sites from abusive development, including Ramla l-Ħamra, Ta’ Ħagrat Temples, the Baroque Palazzos of Villa Bologna, Villa Mekrech and Palazzo Giannin. We saved St John’s Cathedral from damage through the excavation of an underground museum, prevented the destruction of Misraħ San Ġorġ to create a car park, saved the trees at It- Tokk and the Salini tree canopy from destruction. We also block projects that damage communities, like the massive Balzan project. FAA is militating to save the setting of Ġgantija Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is campaigning to have Manoel Island turned into a heritage park.
